Over the past 2 terms President Jaynes has taken advantage of every opportunity to participate in the educational programs provided by the IATSE. Through the IATSE partnership with the University of Wisconsin - Madison, President Jaynes was able to take, "Foundations of Union Leadership", "Leadership Theories and Styles", and "Strategic Planning". These courses were all taught online.
President Jaynes has also taken advantage of the IATSE webinars. His 2 favorite webinars are The IATSE Road Show Why Unions Matter and The Impact of Elections on Labor Law, Unions, and Their Members. Both of these webinars should be required viewing for all our members.
Below are some of the educational programs that President Jaynes attended in person.

President Jaynes graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a minor in history. Though he never worked as a journalist some of the required classes are coming in handy when putting together our quarterly newsletter.

The IATSE Officer Institute 1.0 is a five-day, intensive certification program with courses ranging from Labor Law and Collective Bargaining to Union Finance, managing day-to-day challenges and dealing with conflict. President Jaynes participated in this program at Local 52 in Astoria, NY.

The IATSE Officer Institute 2.0 offers advanced training in issues of financial record keeping, IATSE procedures, fiduciary responsibility, fraud prevention, taking minutes, and Trustee Training. President Jaynes took this training to better understand the duties of the Secretary-Treasurer.

A fundamental understanding of Labor Law is essential for everyone in a position of leadership within a Union. Ignorance is no excuse for the law.

Communication Fundamentals is a very important tool for any would be leader. If you cannot communicate your message to your membership, then you will fail.

The Collective Bargaining class introduced us to negotiation tactics, legal frameworks, and dispute resolution. In the end we participated in a mock negotiation with management.

President Jaynes received his certificate of completion for Officer Institute 1.0 from IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb.

In Forming Effective Teams in Challenging Times, we learned that you cannot do it alone, in good times or bad. You must build a support team that you can rely on, otherwise you will burn out.

President Jaynes received his certificate of completion for Officer Institute 2.0 from IATSE General Secretary-Treasurer James B. Wood.
